  12. WHAT IS RESOURCE PRO?
  13. Resource Pro consists of a set of tools to make your job 
  14. of teaching easier. The tools are

  33. The Teaching Resources Library allows you to quickly see all of the resources for a chapter 
  34. or lesson. You can also search the entire library using a quick and efficient search engine. 
  35. Print only what you need.

  38. How do I register my software?
  39. There are two ways of doing this.
  40. 1.    BY MAIL OR FAX. Print the "Mail_fax.pdf" file and complete the form. 
  41. This file is found in the "Registration" folder on the CD-ROM.
  42. 2.    ON-LINE. Make sure that you are on the Internet first. Then open the
  43. file "Using Netscape" or "Using Explorer" (Mac users) or "Online.htm"  (Windows
  44. users). Fill out the form and click on the Submit button.

  47. What do I need to view the resources in the Teaching Resources Library?
  48. Adobe(r) Acrobat(r) Reader is required for viewing and printing Teaching Resources Library
  49. files. Acrobat Reader 4.05 is included on the Resource Pro CD.

  117. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  119. GETTING STARTED
  120. If you do not already have the Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.05 (or later) software 
  121. with Search installed, you need to install it at this time.
  122.

  125. Installation
  126. (Do this the first time you use the Resource Pro.)
  127. 1. Turn off disk-security, virus-protection, and screen-saver programs, as well
  128. as any other open program(s).
  129. 2. Insert the Resource Pro CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  130. 3. Click on your Start button and select Run from the pop-up menu.
  131. 4. Type: "d:\setup" (where "d" is the letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click
  132. on OK to continue.
  133. 5. Follow the directions on your screen.  Choose the file path where you want to install 
  134. the Resource Pro.
  135. 6. Deselect any components you do not wish to install. You can always install them later
  136. by running the installer again.

  138. Windows Quick Start
  139. (Do this if you have already installed the Resource Pro and Adobe
  140. Acrobat Reader software.)
  141. 1. Insert the Resource Pro CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  142. 2. From your Start menu, select Programs, and then Prentice Hall.
  143. 3. Select the course level to start the software.
  144.  
  145. Macintosh
  146.  
  147. Installation 
  148. (Do this the first time you use the Resource Pro.)
  149. 1. Turn off disk-security, virus-protection, and screen-saver programs, as well
  150. as any other open program(s).
  151. 2. Insert the Resource Pro CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  152. 3. Double-click on the Installer icon.
  153. 4. Follow the installation instructions that appear on the screen.
  154. 5. a. Custom install will allow you to select individual parts of the Resource Pro 
  155. software package.  This procedure may leave off vital portions of the program and 
  156. is only recommended for Advanced users.
  157.    b. Easy install is the recommended option.  This will install all necessary 
  158. components of the Resource Pro software package onto your system.  Using this method,
  159. you can still skip the installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader if you already have 
  160. version 4.05 installed on your system.  Do this by clicking "Decline" on the license
  161. agreement page of Acrobat Reader's installer program.
  162.  
  163. Macintosh Quick Start  
  164. (Do this if you have already installed the Resource Pro and Adobe
  165. Acrobat Reader software.)
  166. 1. Insert the Resource Pro CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  167. 2. Locate the Prentice Hall Resource Pro folder.
  168. 3. Open the folder and double-click on the Resource Pro icon for the course level you want.

  172. KNOWN ISSUES
  173.  
  174. Windows:
  175.  
  176. 1. Creating custom lesson plans will create a lesson one day in length.
  177.  
  178. 2. Color problems sometimes occur when the monitor is set to 16-bit or 256 colors.
  179. See recommended system requirements.
  180.  
  181. 3. When using the calendar within Planning Express, if the selected date is the 
  182. 31st day of a month and you attempt to advance one month, the calendar will actually
  183. advance two months.
  184.  
  185. 4. When using the Local Objectives Editor to export local objectives to a 
  186. diskette,  make sure there is a sufficient amount of space on the diskette.  The application
  187. will attempt to copy the file but it will not report an error if there is
  188. insufficient space. 
  189.  
  190. 5. Local objectives files are becoming corrupt when sent via Netscape mail.
  191.  You must compress and encrypt the file prior to transfer, or use
  192. another mail service.
  193.  
  194. 6. When entering comments about a class, you must use the Ctl+Enter method to enter a line break. 
  195. Hitting the enter key will have the same effect as clicking the OK button.
  196.  
  197. 7. Occasionally when moving a viewable resource from the Lesson Summary into the
  198. Resource Library, the View button will become disabled.  To remedy this, simply
  199. select a different resource from any list and then select the resource that you 
  200. wish to view.  This will enable the button.
  201.  
  202. 8. When installing on Windows 95 or 98, clicking on the Browse button to select a 
  203. directory may cause the following (rare) Operating System error:
  204. Mprexe Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Kernel32.dll.
  205.  
  206. 9. Creating a new lesson plan over an old lesson plan while its Resource Library 
  207. is open causes new lesson plan to appear with disabled Resource Library. Clicking on 
  208. the Resource Library tab causes application to regain focus and allows normal functionality.
  209.  
  210. CAUSE: This behavior can occur if your password list (PWL) file is damaged. 
  211. RESOLUTION: To resolve this issue, use the following steps: 
  212.       1.Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders. 
  213.       2.In the Named box, type *.pwl, and then click Find Now. 
  214.       3.In the list of found files, right-click each file, and then click Delete. 
  215.         Repeat step 3 until all of the .pwl files are deleted. 
  216.       4.On the File menu, click Close. 
  217.       5.Restart the computer. The password list files are re-created automatically 
  218.         when you log on to Windows. 
  219.       6.Download the Mspwlupd.exe file from the following Microsoft Web site, and 
  220.         then double-click the file to run it: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q187/9/65.ASP 
  221.       NOTE: You do not need to perform this step if you are running Windows 98.

  224. Please note that this error is an internal Operating System error.  
  225. Please contact Microsoft if this fix does not work for you.

  227. Macintosh:
  228.  
  229. 1. Certain low memory conditions may prompt a -108 error message to appear
  230. and the Teacher's Resource Planner to close. If this happens, close any other
  231. open programs and try running the Teacher's Resource Planner again.
  232.  
  233. 2. Objectives viewed in Planning Express may sometimes not fit in the viewable
  234. window, and scrollbars do not appear. Users may view the text by scrolling with
  235. the cursor arrow or by dragging with the mouse.
  236.  
  237. 3. Do not use the Local Objectives Editor while Planning Express is open. It 
  238. will appear to function normally, but changes will not be saved.
  239.  
  240. 4. When using the search feature of Adobe Acrobat, if you have several copies of 
  241. Resource Pro installed on your machine, make sure that the only index selected is 
  242. for the course that you are currently using.  Having multiple indexes selected can
  243. cause problems with Acrobat, potentially damaging Acrobat system files.
  244.  
  245. 5. The grey (inactive) items in the file menu reading "Recent Document" are simply 
  246. programmatic placeholders for any classes you have recently opened.  After opening more
  247. than one class file, the list will be populated with the class names, replacing the 
  248. "Recent Document" text.
  249.  
  250. 6. Under certain conditions the boundary limit on the calendar year will not operate 
  251. properly.  Moving from the year 2039 to 2040 will occasionally roll the year back to 1904.  
  252. If this happens, use the buttons to reselect the current year and continue using the 
  253. program as usual.
